Sky Rider Balance Bike

Product Description

Smart Balance Bikes by Smart Gear, often referred to as “run bikes” or “balance bikes”, which are pedal free and without training wheels, first and foremost help a child develop the most important skills necessary to later ride a 2 wheel bicycle with pedals: BALANCE and MOTOR SKILLS. Smart Balance Bikes were designed to develop a child’s balance and coordination by simply allowing the child to sit and walk or run with the bike by pushing with their feet. If the bike starts to fall, kids instinctively regain their balance using their feet. Once they’ve gained some momentum and balance control they can lift their feet up as they feel comfortable and start cruising! Traditional toddler bikes with “training wheels” don’t necessarily train or teach a child how to ride a bicycle. The training wheels are merely a crutch that give the child a false sense of security and merely keep the child busy or entertained rather than actually helping the child develop the necessary skills to ride a bicycle. Smart Balance Bikes are also suitable for children who need to be encouraged with motor skill development and therapeutic training. Smart Balance Bikes are made from birch wood with real inflatable rubber tires, handle bar grips, cushioned leatherette seat and our own unique carry handle incorporated in the bikes body. Wood harvested from a replenishable source Formaldehyde free glue Non Toxic paints and lacquer Carton is made from recycled paper with water based ink printing

1.0 out of 5 stars DONT BUY, September 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Sky Rider Balance Bike (Sports)
I ordered two of these, one in pink and one in blue.

The pink was A OK, but the blue was a completely different experience, it was chipped and had a large blister in the wood, threatening to become a huge chip. The rear axle was bent and missing parts that the pink version had. The axels come preassembled. The front wheel wobbled. I am sending it back for a refund and feel lucky to have had good luck on the pink one. I am concerned about toys with chipping paint from China, and don't recall noticing that the producst were from China. It's a great design concept, put can and will find it from a different manufacture.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the greatest!, November 15, 2011
This review is from: Sky Rider Balance Bike (Sports)
I gave this to my 2 year old nephew last year. It has been his favorite thing ever since. He was cruising around on it right away and was soon lifting up his feet to coast. As soon as he is tall enough, he'll get a bicycle with pedals and HE WILL NEVER NEED TRAINING WHEELS!!
This was the best gift ever!! It really does teach balance and coordination as well as being tons of fun.

**update June 2012**
My nephew just got his first pedal bike for his 4th birthday. He used training wheels for about 3 days so that he could get used to the idea of breaking and putting his feet down. Before he developed bad habits, such as leaning on them and not putting his feet down when he stopped, we took off the training wheels. He didn't even notice that they were gone. He is short for his age and depending on his mood, he will still use this bike some days.
I still stand by the "best gift ever" statement.
And the bike is in still in good enough shape to hand down.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bought it in February; Replacing in September, September 19, 2012
This review is from: Sky Rider Balance Bike (Sports)
I purchased this bike for my 3 year old son. He fit perfectly and loves it... which is why it is heartbreaking to tell him now that it is not repairable. The paint and top layer of wood has peeled off almost the entire bike, the tires need to be replaced, and the nut fell off the rear axle. Being that it is not a standard nut, it cannot be fixed. He has only ridden it since the beginning of summer (which is in June where we live)... so 3 months for this price leaves a very bad taste in my mouth. Pro: It doesn't have pedals, so he's good at maintaining his balance.
