Diamondback Tess 24 Jr Girls' Mountain Bike (2011 Model, 24-Inch Wheels)

Product Description

When a little girl gets too big for a 20" wheeled bike the Tess 24 is the way to go. The heavy duty steel frame will hold up to the trials of childhood while the 40mm suspension fork will make heading down the dirt paths much more fun. Add in both front and rear twist shifters and she will have lots of gears to experiment with. The linear pull front and rear brakes will make stopping easy. Put your little one on a Tess 24 and watch in amazement as she grows - both on and off the bike.

  • 24-inch girl's mountain bike with heat-treated aluminum frame
  • Front suspension fork with 40mm of travel; 21-speed drivetrain
  • Shimano Revo twist shifters; steel junior riser handlebar
  • Linear pull brakes with comfortable hand-brake levers
  • Alloy wheels and wide knobby tires; resin platform pedals

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bike at a great price. Perfect size for a small girl in between sizes., May 4, 2011
I got this bike for my 9 year old daughter on her birthday. This was really important to us: she's right between the 20" inch and 24" sizes and a lot of the 24" bikes we tried out were a bit too big for her, the 20" ones seemed like she'd only get to ride for the summer before she out gre them. This bike fit perfectly, seat lowered all the way down and she'll be able to grow with it and use it for a long time. This is her first mountain bike, we were looking for quality and value, and I believe this bike has both. The components are all shimano, the seat is very comfortable (according to her) and the bike is sturdy. It's a bit heavy but it's standard for steel frames in this price range. Plus, she won't be doing any jumping just yet. We've been on a few rides already and the bike has managed well. The shifters do their job well. As on ALL new bikes, the cables will loosen in the first couple of months so the derailers will require a bit of tuning, this is normal and should not be... Read more

I bought this bike for my 10 yr. daughter, I did not buy it from Amazon, but form REI, I am very handy with bikes, but they put it together for free, for $180 total, it is a steal.
This bike is not light because it has steel frame...standard in this price range. 21 speed Shimano grip shfters and derailler. We rode it now for a year now, seasonal use, no problem at all....For an average handy man, you can put it together within an hour...and please use a bike stand or bike rack when trying to put it together, it is about 40lbs I believe, or put the handelbar first, then put the bike upside down to install the rest of the components..

My daughter hasn't been able to ride the bike yet due to the massive amounts of ice on the streets this year, but the bike definitely looks nice, was easy to put together and will be a great size for years. The low bar height makes it so my 9 year old can use it now and, since it's made for a teen, she should be able to ride it for a long time. I'm a little worried that the front shock is el cheepo and won't work very well, but can't say for sure yet. The price is incredible.

UPDATE!!!... very disappointed that diamondback would sell this bike. The shock is useless, the bike weighs more than mine and my wife's together and the grip shifts are impossible to turn. I kept telling my daughter to toughen up with the shifters until I finally listened to her and tried them. I couldn't even turn them. So I replaced the rear shifter and now it turns like butter. Diamondback should be embarrassed to sell this...
